7.7. Check of a state and replacement of the coil of ignition

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Switch off ignition (the key has to be turned in position of OFF). 2. Remove from the distributor a cover, the runner and the filter (at the corresponding complete set). 3. Disunite electric sockets of primary contour of the coil of ignition.
4a. By means of an ohmmeter measure resistance between plugs (And yes In) primary winding of the coil (see accompanying illustrations).
4b. Measurement of resistance of primary winding of the coil of ignition on models with the TES distributor. Compare result of measurement to requirements of Specifications.
5a. Then measure resistance between the positive plug of primary winding (A) and the plug of a secondary winding (model with the Hitachi distributor). Again compare result to requirements of Specifications.
5b. Measure resistance between the positive plug of primary winding (A) and the plug of a secondary winding (model with the TEC distributor).
6. Remember that standard values of resistance of windings change with a temperature. Values for temperature of the coil of 21 °C are given in Specifications. 7. If in any of the last two checks the result of measurement exceeds the limit of admissible range, replace the ignition coil.
Replacement
PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Disconnect a negative wire from the battery.
If the stereosystem established on the car is equipped with a security code before disconnecting the battery make sure that you have the correct combination for input of the audio system in action!
2. Remove from the distributor a cover and the filter (at the corresponding complete set) (see the Head Routine maintenance). Disconnect wires from plugs of primary contour of the coil.
3. Turn out two fixing screws (see an accompanying illustration) and take the ignition coil from assembly of the distributor.
