7.8. Check of serviceability of functioning and replacement of the module of management of ignition (ICM)

Check of serviceability of functioning and replacement of the module of management of ignition (ICM)

Check

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Check serviceability of giving of food for the ignition module. Remove a cover and the runner of the distributor and disconnect from ICM a black-yellow wire (see an accompanying illustration). Make sure available battery tension directly on the electrical wiring socket at the included ignition (a key in position of ON, the engine is not started).

2. Check a condition of a contour of ignition and the accompanying components. If tension on ICM is absent, check a condition of an electrical wiring on the site of a chain between the module and the battery (see the Head Onboard electric equipment). First of all it is always necessary to check a condition of safety locks of switches of ignition No. No. 41 (80 A on the Civic models and 100 A on the Integra models) and 42 (40 A) in the assembly block of relays/safety locks located under a cowl. Also check a safety lock No. 9 (15 A) in the assembly block in interior of the car. Attentively investigate an electric contour and make sure that the switch of ignition provides giving of food on ICM at turn of a key in position of ON. Also check a flavovirent wire between ICM and the module of management of the power (RSM) and the blue wire connected to a tachometer, or its service socket. If conductivity between the ends any of the mentioned wires is absent, therefore takes place break and the corresponding electrical wiring it is necessary to replace. If conductivity between one of the ends of a wire and weight takes place, therefore short circuit takes place (for more details see schemes of electric connections in the Head Onboard electric equipment).

3. Make sure of serviceability of giving of power supply from the ignition coil to ICM. At the included ignition (do not start the engine) make sure available tension between blue (Hitachi distributor) / white-blue (TES distributor) and the mass of a body (see an accompanying illustration). Tension has to equal developed by the battery.

4. If tension is absent, check a chain on the site between the corresponding wire and the coil. Also check coil windings for existence of internal breaks (see Check of a state and replacement of the coil of ignition).
5. If the coil and an electrical wiring of a chain as it should be, and sparking is absent, replace ICM.

Replacement

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Disconnect a negative wire from the battery.

If the stereosystem established on the car is equipped with a security code before disconnecting the battery make sure that you have the correct combination for input of the audio system in action!

2. Uncover and, at the corresponding complete set, the distributor filter (see the Head Routine maintenance).
3. Disunite all electric sockets on ICM.

4. Turn out the fixing screw(s) and take ICM from the ignition distributor (see an accompanying illustration).

5. Installation is made upside-down
