14.3. Safety locks - the general information

Various combinations of safety locks, breakers of a chain and fusible inserts are applied to protection of electric contours of electric equipment of the car. Two assembly blocks (three on the models equipped with ABS) are located one – under an instrument guard in the left part of the dashboard, the second – in the right part of a motive compartment of the car (see illustrations below).

Each separate safety lock is used for protection of any concrete electric contour. The identification table of safety locks is usually glued to a cover of the assembly block, from its internal party.

In the assembly block the safety locks of a compact design equipped with bayonet contacts, and which if necessary are easily taken from the nests in the block by fingers are used. At refusal any of consumers of the electric power first of all it is always necessary to check a condition of the corresponding safety lock. The case of a safety lock is manufactured of transparent plastic through which it is easy to define a condition of a working crossing point (see an illustration below).

When replacing of the fused safety lock strictly you watch that the prepared replaceable corresponded on the type which failed. The safety locks calculated on various nominal current physically can differ in nothing from each other, without being at the same time interchangeable. Each of electric chains is calculated on various working parameters and needs various degree of protection therefore replacement of the safety lock calculated on a certain current, not corresponding to it in parameters is fraught with the most serious consequences (up to fire emergence). Working parameters of a safety lock (nominal current) are usually designated on its plastic case.

If the new safety lock at once after installation also fails, it does not make sense to make its further replacement, – before it is necessary to reveal and remove the overload cause in a chain. In most cases that appears the short circuit of an electrical wiring caused by damage of its isolation.

On all models of the cars considered in the Present Manual the main safety lock which is usually calculated on nominal current in 80 or in 100 amperes is provided. The safety lock provides the general protection of all contours connected to the rechargeable battery and is beaten out at emergence of an overload of any of them, preventing thereby failure of the main braid of an electrical wiring. The main safety lock consists of a lamellar metal crossing point which easily melts at emergence of electric overloads. Before starting replacement of the main safety lock without fail switch-off the rechargeable battery. A replaceable main safety lock it is always possible to acquire in company service center of the company manufacturer of the car.

If the stereosystem established on the car is equipped with a security code before disconnecting the battery make sure that you have the correct combination for input of the audio system in action!

The main safety lock is in the assembly block located in a motive compartment of the car, externally a little in what differs from other safety locks and changes in the similar way. Remember that the failed main safety lock has to be replaced with replaceable calculated on the same current.
