5.8. Replacement of the water pump

Start implementation of the procedure only after full cooling of the engine!


 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Disconnect a negative wire from the battery.

If the stereosystem established on the car is equipped with a security code before disconnecting the battery make sure that you have the correct combination for input of the audio system in action!


2. Empty the cooling system (see the Head Routine maintenance). If replacement of cooling liquid was made quite recently, keep it for further use.
3. Take off belts of the drive of auxiliary units (see the Head Routine maintenance).
4. Take off a gas-distributing belt (see the Part Repair of the engine without extraction from the car - the Civic model). On the Integra models remove pulleys from camshafts, and also a back guard of the engine.
5. Remove arms of fastening of auxiliary accessories from the water pump.

6. Turn out fixing bolts (see an accompanying illustration) and separate the pump from the engine. Try to remember location of a long bolt.

7. Clean a carving of fixing bolts and bolted openings in the block, having completely exempted it from corrosion traces, in case of need restore the broken rounds.
8. Make sure of compliance of the new pump old on a standard size.
9. Remove all traces of sealant and material of an old sealing ring from the interfaced surface of the block of the engine.
10. Wipe the interfaced surfaces of the engine and the new pump with the rags moistened in acetone.

11. Grease a bottom and walls of a flute under installation of a sealing ring on the case of the new pump with RTV sealant, then accurately enclose in a flute a new sealing ring (see an accompanying illustration).

12. Carefully press the pump to the engine block, screw couple of fixing bolts and tighten them, so far only by hand.
13. Screw the remained bolts (if any of them are used also for fastening of auxiliary arms, do not forget to establish as well the last). In stages, – on
1/4 turns for approach, – tighten fixture with the required effort.

Pulling of bolts is inadmissible in view of risk of deformation the interfaced surfaces by no means!


14. Install all components which were removed for the purpose of ensuring access to the pump.
15. Fill the cooling system and remove from it air traffic jams, check effort of a tension of a belt (it) of the drive of auxiliary units (see the Head Routine maintenance). Start the engine and check it for existence of signs of leak of cooling liquid.
