3.11. Check of a state, adjustment of effort of a tension and replacement of driving belts, (each 12 000 km of a run or time in 6 months)

Check

Driving, or V-shaped (as they are called sometimes), belts are located in a forward part of the power unit and play an important role in functioning of the engine and many other systems of the car. Over time belts are subject to wear, and therefore, have to look round regularly according to the schedule of routine maintenance of the car in order to avoid serious engine failures which correction of consequences can become in kopek.

Treat family of V-shaped belts as well multicostal.

The quantity of the used driving belts depends on a car complete set. Belts are applied to the drive of such auxiliary units as the generator, steering and water pumps, the air conditioner compressor, etc. Depending on the scheme of an arrangement of pulleys, can be put by one belt in action more than one unit.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1a. Kill the engine, open a cowl and find driving belts in a forward part of the power unit. Highlighting itself a small lamp, fingers feel belts on all their length, checking for existence of cracks and stratifications. Inadmissibly also presence on a belt of attritions, zapolirovanny to gloss of sites and other obvious defects (see accompanying illustrations).

1b. Examine belts on both sides for what overwind them.

2. Check of effort of a tension of a belt is made by a nazhimaniye on it by a hand thumb on the site in the middle between two next pulleys. Pressing has to be rather firm. The parameter characterizing effort of a tension of a belt is the size of its deflection at a nazhimaniye (see an accompanying illustration). As a rule, if pulleys defend from each other at distance from 180 to 280 mm, the size of a deflection has to make 6.4 mm, at distance between pulleys 305÷405 mm, the deflection of a wedge-shaped belt has to make 12.5 mm, multicostal – 6.4 mm.

Adjustment

In case of need correction of effort of a tension of a driving belt, is made by shift in the relevant party of the unit given by it.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1a. For correction of a tension of a belt of the drive of the generator weaken axial and adjusting bolts of fastening of the last and displace the unit in the relevant party (see an accompanying illustration).

1b. Having finished adjustment, tighten bolts. The K/V compressor, on the contrary, is fixed rigidly, however is equipped with the tension roller allowing to make correction of effort of a tension of a belt (see an accompanying illustration).

1c. For correction of a tension of a belt of the drive of the steering pump it is necessary to release adjusting bolts then to use a nut lamb on one models, or to shift a pump housing in the relevant party, on others.

2. Having finished adjustment, make sure of correctness of a tension of a belt (see above). In case of need repeat the procedure of adjustment.

Replacement

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. For replacement of a driving belt weaken bolts of fastening of the unit / a tension roller as did it at adjustment and throw off a belt from pulleys. It makes sense to make at the same time replacement of all driving belts at once. Before finally taking off a belt from the car, mark the direction of rotation of a belt and the scheme of its laying in streams of pulleys.
2. Upon purchase of new belts take with yourself old as samples – replaceable belts have to correspond strictly old on a standard size.
3. Upon completion of replacement adjust a tension of new belts (see above).
